And So the Journey Begins!

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. (Jeremiah 29:11)

Inhale. Exhale. Inhale. Exhale. It's really happening. Your setting an example for those who want to chase and achieve their dreams. That's what I told myself before stepping on the plane after praying with my parents before setting off on a new adventure.

We sometimes dream so big that those dreams scare us away from reaching for what we want, but hey what do they say, "If your dreams don't scare you then they aren't big enough". Well, I am now living one of the scariest dreams that I've always hoped for, and it feels so good.

August 24th, 2017 I set off to Miami, Florida to start my newest adventure with the Royal Caribbean Cruise Line as a Dancer for their Quantum of the Seas ship in China. Yes, you read it right CHINA! I couldn't believe it myself when I found out where my ship was basedI I'm not going to lie I've had quite a bit of adventures working and dancing for some of the most amazing companies, choreographers, and training with the best of the best, but never did I think my dream of doing the two things I love, Traveling and Dancing, would become reality, yet alone a dream come true.

I have been with Royal for two weeks now and it has been truly two of the most amazing weeks in my career I have ever experienced. You never realize how grateful you are of things you've gone through or the training you've received until you utilize it away from those that instilled it in you. The extensive training form my instructors, mentors, the many intensives I've had the privilege of training at are now coming in handy. From learning four dances in the first four days of rehearsal, to learning a whole show in just two weeks, all I can say is we've been PUTTING IN WERK! The dancing has been quite amazing and the pieces are challenging mentally and physically. There are plenty of days where I am in bed by seven o'clock with no shame. I am truly grateful to be apart of such a diverse and talented cast. Made up of so many amazing people from around the world,  America, Australia, Italy, Ireland, Britain, and Canada I am surrounded around CULTURE! Just know when I get back from this journey with these amazing people I will think I'm from every one of their countries lol.  So far I've learned:

  • Australians Say: Heaps More, Keen , Reckon

  • Netflix is better in America

  • Everyone is obsessed with Chipotle

  • I am finally one of the oldest of a cast

  • Having a cast with 17 new hires is unheard of for RCCL

  • Going to dance Intensives and training your body for all day of dancing is a blessing, because your well prepared for the future.

  • Being a cast of only two African American females your mistaken for the singer instead of the dancer first lol

  • Dorm life is just as interesting as I thought I would be. Never had that experience in college.

  • Going to the beach when it's almost sunset is just as beautiful as going when the sun is beaming...and a great way to avoid tan lines lol

I am forever grateful for Royal Caribbean taking care of their entertainers as well. With housing provided, I have been placed with two of the best roomies possible, Emily and Jenalee.

Moving away from Dallas after a month of being home and being with loved ones was definitely hard to leave, but I know that God has a plan in store for me, and who am I to run away from my blessings. This by far has been a different transition for me knowing I will be away from my family with no way of coming home for a whole year, but I know so much more will be coming out of it. I am truly blessed to have such an amazing support system who pushes me to be the best ME I can be and to push and succeed in all God has in store for me. Mom has always taught me, "It takes a village to raise a child", and I forever will lean on those words because without them  I wouldn't be where I am. I want to say Thank You to those who have supported me and all my adventures and successes thus far, and those that have reached out to show love, it never goes unnoticed and it greatly appreciated. I wouldn't be here without the love and support of not just those that have motivated an pushed me, but also those who doubted me, because of you I pushed harder.
